The Liver Building has two "liver" birds on top. They are imaginary birds like griffins and phoenix. (I hope they don't become chopped livers!)   We had lunch at the Cavern Restaurant on Mathew Street—across from the Cavern Club where the Beatles were discovered.

Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, discovered them at a lunchtime concert in the Cavern Club in 1961. With no experience as a talent scout, he signed them and got them a record deal and within months, the Beatles were international stars. He died in 1967 at the age of 32 from an overdose of alcohol and barbiturates.   The Queen Victoria monument was unveiled in 1906, five years after her death. There are 175 statues of her around the world!
The Western Approaches Museum was headquarters for directing the WWII Battle of the Atlantic (the longest and most complex sea battle in history). We met Winston Churchill there. Mr. Chad was the British version of the American Kilroy was here. Chad complained about food shortages and rationing during the war—WOT? No Sausages!

In the war room, the British plotted the position of German submarines and convoys from reports by British pilots and later by codebreakers at Bletchley Park.   We spotted this Titanic soap package but know that people in such underground headquarters did not wash regularly!
